Parkway Under 8's
Plymouth Parkway Under 8’s will be looking to develop their young squad both on and off the pitch as manager Lee Williams wants this years crop of youngsters to enjoy their football, and make friends for life.
After managing the Under 8’s last season, four of Lee’s squad have gone on to be picked for The Plymouth Argyle Academy, with the remainder of the squad playing a year higher than themselves, Lee made the decision to remain in the Under 8’s age group and not progress into the Under 9’s.
Lee explains: “We operate on a squad of eight players, of which, every player is associated with a professional academy so it’s a very talented team.” This season, the talented squad will not be playing in a league but they will be facing a lot of difficult challenges over the course of the season. “We won’t be playing in a league as such, but we will be playing fixtures against Under 9 opposition so the lads can gain 7v7 experience”, Lee adds. The team have also entered the ESF Butlins Minehead tournament which is being held in April of next year.

For Lee, managing the team is very much a family affair as he calls on the help of Mum and Dad. “It’s great, my Dad is the coach and Mum is the team secretary”, Lee adds. Lee’s Dad has pedigree in the game as he has managed from Under 10’s straight through to Under 18’s. He coached notable players including former Yeovil Town manager and now Argyle Under 18 manager Darren Way.
Lee has managed to keep four of his players from last season and with those players comes experience as Lee explains “We travelled to Crewe Alexandra last season and played their Under 9’s which was a great experience and we were also due to travel to Liverpool and face their Under 8’s before the season was curtailed by Covid-19.”
Lee’s philosophy for youth football is simple: It provides mental and physical benefits to the children through physical activity and the boys will make life long friends.
