The Yellows Hoping to get Back to Winning Ways

Parkway v Chertsey Town | Match Preview

By Lewis Retallick

Parkway face Chertsey Town at Bolitho for their first fixture of February, and it’s certainly set to be a good one. The Yellows are following on from a very disappointing 4-0 loss to Totton which was always going to be difficult as they are a team fighting for the top spot.

It was a rough game on the road which saw our defence get tested big time, and in the 40th minute the hosts took the lead with a simple finish from forward Ethan Taylor. It looked like it was going to be a close end to the match, but in the 81st minute Taylor bagged himself another. Then only four minutes later the referee pointed to the spot and gave Totton a penalty, which Scott Rendell calmly finished. To wrap it all up, Sam Magri made it four.

Plymouth were in fact set to face Ivybridge Town in the St Lukes Bowl Quarter Final mid-week, but that was postponed due to the blanket of terrible weather covering the city recently. You don’t have long to wait though as the match is now taking place on February 4th at 7:45pm – hopefully it is going to be a good night under the lights – but for now, it is all eyes on Chertsey.

Parkway are starting to struggle in most departments it seems like, as their recent form proves. They have only got one win in their last five, a draw and three defeats and the form in front of goal as well as defending their own net, is dipping. They’ve managed to score seven, and have conceded 12 goals, and to make matters worse, they haven’t scored at all in the previous two. Hopefully that can be sorted in this matchup.

Chertsey aren’t exactly in great form themselves, as in their last five they have picked up only one win, a draw, and three defeats. Their most recent game was a 5-2 defeat to bottom of the league Marlow, which might’ve been a match they expected to win, and another one of their matches was against Aldershot Town in the FA Trophy which ended up being an 8-0 thrashing, knocking Chertsey out of the competition. I can’t imagine morale is too high right now for them, but they are still a strong side so hopefully complacency doesn’t influence The Yellows in this one.

Parkway did get the victory over them in the reverse fixture back in October last year, with the match finishing 2-1, so let’s see if the lads can repeat that and get back to winning ways.
