“We’re delighted”, said manager Chris McPhee.

“To a man, really pleased to turn up today with a plan and with a goal in mind. I set the lads at the target to have a clean sheet, as it’s been a while since we’ve managed to get a clean sheet, well especially since Alex has been here, and fully deserved.

“I said to the lads, it’s not just Alex’s clean sheet today, it’s the whole squad, even the players coming off the bench to impact the game and see us home was crucial.

“I felt, especially once we went from 1-0 up, there was a definite difference in our mental approach. The players were far more focused, you could see them once they got back ready for the kick-off.

“They had a real consciousness around how we were going to go about it. I know that we were giving them a bit of motivation in those moments, but the difference between the way we conducted ourselves on the pitch after going 1-0 up today compared to last week was chalk and cheese.

“As a result, three points is massive for us at this stage of the season.”

Having won just once in their last five games, a win was well and truly needed to keep the Yellows from slipping back into the relegation mire.

Chris McPhee made one change from the side that lost at home to Dorchester Town, with new signing Reece Thompson making his first start back at Bolitho.

There were early warning signs from Gosport who had a couple of attempts to threaten Alex Rutter’s goal.

A vicious volley from outside of the box from Bradley Tarbuck and a glancing header Daniel Wooden both fell wide of the far post – had the volley been slightly more accurate, Rutter would have been left stranded.

This sparked Parkway into life, and they came ever so close to taking the lead. Love-Holmes cut in from the left wing onto his right foot and was inches away from finding the top right corner.

The home side came close again on the 17th minute mark, but Thompson failed to apply the finishing touch to Tom Dean’s pinpoint low ball into the box.

The half chances were coming, but Parkway were missing the killer touch needed to take the lead.

This was summed up when Love-Holmes curled in a smart ball into the box which was met by Hall, but it fell awkwardly for the midfielder and he side-footed his effort over the bar from close range ensuring the first half ended goalless.

After having produced next to nothing since their active opening 10 minutes, Gosport came close to opening the scoring in style.

Within five passes the away side made their way from the edge of their box, into Parkway’s and in a similarly to Thompson’s chance, Wooden was millimetres away from poking home the opener.

It took time, but the scoring was finally opened by Parkway in the 72nd minute.

Love-Holmes was played in behind the defensive line and forced Adam Parkes into a rare save, but the rebound fell kindly to Hall who buried the chance making it 1-0 to Plymouth Parkway.

It was a quickfire double for the Yellows as Love-Holmes then effectively sealed the win, leaping high at the back post and heading home a looping cross from Dean into the bottom left corner for 2-0.

The win has moved Parkway up to 16th in the table, six points clear of 19th placed Frome Town and puts them five points behind next weeks opponents Bracknell Town.
