Parkway are welcoming Tiverton to the Theatre of Trees for a relegation battle on New Years Day. The Yellows are following on from a brilliant 2-1 victory over Havant & Waterlooville in what was their final match of 2024 – they sure ended the year with a bang.
It was a tough game against a resilient side who sat at the top end of the table fighting for those promotion qualification spots, but the lads made sure to take all three points from them and get themselves further up the league. It was Mitch Beardmore who got on the scoresheet once again to make it 1-0, but the visitors found a way back into the game through a corner as the end of the first half approached. But Callum Hall scored the winner in the 45th minute and then Parkway did well to hold firm for the rest of the game.
The Yellows are a little inconsistent as of late, beating the top teams but struggling against the lower end ones. They do however have only two defeats in their last five, and they are so close to getting out of the relegation zone, meaning they really need to find a way to start a consecutive run of wins.
Tiverton sit one place below Parkway in the table, and they are both level on 20 points, but they have played one extra game – so that’s in Parkways’ favour. Their recent form hasn’t been very good, as they have only one win in their last five, three defeats, and a draw and it’s worth noting that they have only managed to score three goals in all those games and conceded 11. It’s becoming a bit of an issue for them to find the back of the net, as well as protect their own.
As usual though, no matter the form, basement battles always make for interesting games, so hopefully Parkway can begin 2025 on a good note.
