“We didn’t get off to the best of starts”, said manager Chris McPhee.

“We had a little bit of a wobble in the first minute or so and going a goal down, we looked a little bit kind of uneasy with the ball which is unlike us, but the boys showed character.”

“I mentioned it to the lads at halftime that it all sparked into life from a big tackle from Rio (Garside). It was a big moment in the game that kind of gave the boys some inspiration, a bit of a bit of a boost and I don’t think the lads looked back from that.

“They raised their physicality, they raised their quality, intensity, focus, all those kind of superlatives.

“From that moment, I felt as though that was probably one of our best performances of the year in terms of a real gutsy performance, one where that midfield battle was fantastically led by some experience.

“We’ve been a little bit flat the last couple of weeks. We can’t really put a finger on whether it’s that we’ve lost players that have come in and done well for us and scored a lot of goals and whether the lads felt that we didn’t offer much of a goal threat.

“But it’s great to see us scoring the goals we have done today. The intensity is back and we’ve got to make sure that next week, going into Winchester and beyond that, we bring that energy, that fight and that focus.”

After coming off the back of consecutive loses, the Bolitho faithful would have surely been expecting a rapid response from their side, and yet they were met with quite the opposite.

Relegation threatened Poole Town took a shock lead with just a minute on the clock when Kristian Campbell, played through by Selim Said, had an effort saved by Alex Rutter’s outstretched foot but Ezio Tourney was alive to smash home the rebound to making it 1-0 within a flash.

A mere three minutes later, Parkway’s lethargic start could have worsened as a freekick from Charlie Davis found defender Billy Blowes free at the back post for an uncontested header – luckily for the Yellows, Blowes’ teammates failed to forward his header goalward.

This seemed to be the wakeup call McPhee’s side were looking for as a flurry of half chances followed.

Exeter City loanee Dean whipped a low searching ball across the goal mouth from the right-hand side which was begging to be tapped home to no avail.

This was shortly followed by a headed effort from Wright who latched onto a smart cross from Michael Williams, yet the lack of power on the final touch failed to trouble Poole’s Ben Taylor.

Fresh off the back of a month’s loans spell with Willand Rovers, returning winger James Watts-Barciela looked set to find the top right corner after cutting in on his right foot from the left wing but a cruel bobble in the turf ensured his shot sailed over the bar.

Parkway’s revived pressure soon reaped its rewards when a defence splitting ball from Carlo Garside found Wright through on goal in the penalty area, leaving Taylor with no option but to make a challenge and concede a penalty.

Captain White stepped up and sent Taylor the wrong way, slotting into the bottom right corner to make it 1-1 after 18 minutes.

The goal brought the confidence back into Parkway and after a couple of half chances from Wright went amiss, they managed to take the lead in the 6th minute of added time in the first half.

A freekick from the righthand side was floated into the box by Carlo Garside but was cleared to White outside the box. The defender then whipped a perfect ball into the back post for Dean to head home on the line to complete the comeback before halftime.

The home side then gave themselves a cushion just three minutes into the second half as Wright powerfully headed home a ball to the back stick to score his first and long awaited first league goal of the season.

With Parkway cruising, the party tricks started to come out and Rio Garside was inches away from claiming one of the assists of the season.

Parkway’s number 10 finessed a delicate volleyed ball to the back stick for Callum Hall to latch onto, but despite the midfielders desperate attempts to turn the ball goalward, Hall’s effort sailed over the crossbar.

Despite their early dominance, Poole struggled to get a real foothold in the game, especially after going behind.

Their day perhaps was summed up when late in the second half, Josh Staunton had the ball in the back of the net following a freekick, only for the linesman’s flag to deny him and his side a route to redemption.

The win sees McPhee’s side move to 14th in the table, seven points above the relegation zone and Poole Town in 20th place.

Next up for the Yellows is a trip to Winchester City who sit just three points away from danger in 18th place.
