Parkway enter the Cauldron Ready for Merthyr Test
Merthyr Town v Parkway | Match PreviewBy Lewis Retallick
Parkway are taking a trip to Wales to face Merthyr Town in what is going to be an extremely tough match. The Yellows are following on from a Devon Bowl fixture against Ivybridge which ended in disappointment after losing 6-7 on penalties.
It was a slow quarter-final and it could have easily ended 0-0 to be honest, but Callum Hall found the back of the visitors net in the 65th minute through a great transition from defence to attack. It looked like the lads were through to the next round but in the 93rd minute, Ivybridge were awarded a penalty, which they then went on to put away.
It then went to penalties which started off well with the visitors missing their first one, but in the end, Parkway missed one too many and came crashing out of the competition.
Plymouth are not in the best of form as they now have only two wins and three defeats in their last five and have scored and conceded seven in those games too. They are really struggling to put together consecutive wins and find some momentum, and with the relegation battle heating up, any points they can collect are important ones.
Merthyr are having an exceptional season and have accumulated 67 points so far after getting 20 wins, seven draws and only losing twice and all those performances have put them comfortably in 1st place. They haven’t lost a league game since August last year, so beating them is certainly going to be difficult. Although they haven’t lost recently, some could argue their form has dipped slightly, as they have been drawing a lot more of their matches.
The head-to-head is interesting – the last five games have resulted in three wins for Merthyr, one draw, and a win for Parkway. Beating them is clearly possible, so let’s hope the lads can do it again this weekend.
