Reflecting on 2024 and the exciting future ahead
Notes from the Chairman2024 has been a year with highs and lows, ending the 2023/24 season by securing Southern League Premier South survival by goal difference was vital for the club to continue the progression both on and off the pitch.
After 7 years of Lee Hobbs at the helm the choice was made that we would look for a new manager who could not only oversee the club progress on the pitch but also work with the club to fulfil some of the key objectives set out by the board for the next 5/10 years. We set out on our recruitment process looking for a manager who could not just bring entertaining football to Bolitho Park but someone who would be able to work within the budgets for a successful sustainable football club, with the key objective being developing young talent that can be part of the club for a long time.
Chris (Macca) was offered the role as first team manager and alongside him would see Lee (Peaks) join the club as assistant manager. A number of players moved on and a relatively new squad was put together with the emphasis being young players that can make a name for themselves at the club and become stars for the future. It was vital that we kept the backbone of the squad together from last season and add to those players with new and exciting players, something that I am pleased we have done that.
A few good loan players were added to the club as well as some of our own players who were all very young and would take some time to gel into the free flowing football that Macca and Peaks installed into them.
Several players from last year as well as the additions have proved this season already that they can play some lovely football which has gained massive praise from opposition teams about how we play football, the early part of the season was very much about adapting to the new style while trying to pick up valuable points, this had its ups and downs but a nice cup run in the FA cup meant some new history for the club coming up just short of the first round proper.
The last couple of months have seen some very good performances against some of the top teams in the leagues which proves we can hold our own, we have also had a few days where things just haven’t gone as planned but the lads have shown great character to not let their heads drop and go into the next game and try and put it right.
As we come to the end of 2024 we are seeing some solid performances from the team and hopefully in the coming weeks we can start to climb the league table to a position that the football we play deserves.
Most of all I call on all the fans to get behind the lads, give them the support they need and understand that some days it just won’t be our day but overall we have a great manager and coaching staff and a very exciting chapter of the clubs history is going to be starting in 2025 with more details being announced in the coming days and weeks.
For a club like Parkway it is vital that we progress off the pitch as much as on the pitch and over the last few months we have increased the directors at the club with the addition of Stuart, Mike, Darren, Chris and Sean who are all starting to find their feet and are all working hard to improve the overall experience at the club.
We continue to have many successes with our youth and disability teams and thank everyone involved for their hard work that goes into making these teams possible. The success of these teams not only helps the club move forward but also grows the support we can do in the community and we believe 2025 is going to a year where Parkway in the community will grow and grow.
I thank all the staff, management, coaching staff, players, volunteers and fellow directors for the support throughout 2024 and look forward to them all playing a big part in the success over the next 12 months.
Finally thank you to all the supporters who without them there is no club, both members of the supporters club and people who come along and watch games or use the great facility at The Full Time.
Happy New Year and I look forward to an exciting 2025!
