What We've Learned and Where We're Headed
A Message from MaccaJust a brief look back at the first half of the season. Our first season together, a big change, a new start for a lot of people and a new look Parkway.
I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to manage this great football club. A club that means so much to so many people and a club that has known a lot of success as it climbed the leagues over the last six or seven years.
Myself and Peaks have been busy from the first day we arrived at Bolitho, with one player contracted. It’s great to work with so many passionate members of the board and volunteers that we wouldn’t be able to function without.
The players were onboard from the first meeting and have worked tirelessly to implement our ideas and style of football on the pitch. Their efforts in training and away from the club in their own time has enabled them to not only play the free-flowing football we want but they have become physically capable of outworking more experienced and established players at this level.
After a tough start where performances were promising but the points on the board were hard to come by, a cup run gave us all hope and confidence as we adapted to the league and our way of playing. After 11 league games we had six points. Lots of opposing players and managers would compliment our play and we were earning small amounts of respect.
In the last 10 games we have picked up 14 points and in those games have been the ninth best team in the league with that return. The reason for the turnaround? I believe the players have become extremely comfortable with the style of play and enjoy the way we play. The fitness and physicality of the group, their desire to give everything and, above all else, we have all learned from the experiences this season has already produced for us.
We have won some big games and beaten some good teams, created lots and lots of chances and entertained along the way. Yes, we have lost heavily this season and been hurt along the way, however our attitude has been to learn as much as we can to avoid any repeat and we have developed resilience and determination to bounce back and defend as a team with pride, energy, and desire.
Points-wise we have what we have right now despite how many points we feel our play deserved but we are in a positive mindset, about to step into 2025 with a healthy squad, some good momentum, and an inner belief that pumps through the players where we know who we are and how we will continue to grow as we have standards and expectations that the players love and live by.
We are ever thankful for your unwavering support. It’s not been easy for you, I know, however we believe you are all enjoying what you are seeing from the lads. Club heroes who have been here for years, along with new faces that are becoming fan favourites, and I know a lot of you can see progress, can see the direction the club is moving and dare I say excited by the team that represents you and this club right now.
I know I am quiet and reserved off the pitch, just going quietly and unassuming about my work as I prefer to not be in your faces but I do enjoy speaking to you all and I am always happy to discuss anything with you and you are all welcome to come along to training and see what we do and ask why and how.
We are lucky to have you all and we will move forward together into 2025.
Wishing you all a happy New Year, from all here at Plymouth Parkway. May it be the best yet!
Many thanks and best wishes,
Macca
