The match began on a slippery surface following rain earlier in the afternoon. On two minutes, good play down the left between Tom Dean, Frankie Monk and Ryan Brett saw a telling cross which was cut out for a corner by the visiting defence with the corner failing to trouble them. Wimborne gained their first corner on 4 minutes, and it again came to nothing although Mikey Williams had to take one to the face in defending it, recovering quickly after.
The first shot of the match came on 7 minutes when a break from Williams saw him play in Monk who shot from 25 yards forcing a save from Alex Rutter. Wimborne threatened on 10 minutes when a dangerous break by Cameron Munn saw him beat Taylor Scarff and he appeared to be going one-on-one with the keeper Harry Lee, but a last-ditch sliding tackle, from Williams again, stopped the attack.
On 15 minutes, the visitors took the lead. A cross from the right was cut out for a corner which was taken on the right by Josh Carmichael and striker Will Fletcher met the delivery from 10 yards out with an unchallenged thumping header which powered past Lee. A nice way to celebrate his Birthday of the day before. Parkway have conceded many goals from free headers from corners this season and have clearly not learnt from it.
On 17 minutes a Parkway raid down the left saw Jack Endacott force a corner. The ball fell to Mitch Beardmore who shot weakly past the post. On 19 minutes, a cross from Carmichael saw Fletcher win a header in the box from 15 yards but this time it travelled wide of the post.
A good build up by Parkway on 24 minutes resulted in Joe Wragg blazing over the bar from 20 yards. On 31 minutes, an excellent move from the visitors switching play from left to right saw Lewis Beale slide the ball through to Cameron Munn who forced a good stop from Lee to keep Parkway in contention.
Parkway had the majority of possession up to this stage, but Wimborne had a far greater goal threat with their slightly less amount of ball.
A good probing run from Williams on 38 minutes saw a deflected shot from Brett gathered by Rutter between his posts. On 41 minutes, Parkway threatened again when a good move on the left between Brett and Monk saw the cross intercepted for a corner. The resultant corner was met by Rio Garside, but he couldn’t direct it on target.
In the first of two added minutes, Tom Dean was seemingly pulled back on half-way, but nothing was given and Wimborne broke and forced a corner on the left which came to nothing. Parkway themselves finished the half on the attack which was ended by a foul from Munn which saw him receive a yellow.
The score felt about right on the balance of play at the interval although you could not fault Parkways’ endeavour. They had many players on their best form including Monk, Brett, Garside, Williams, Scarff and it was hoped that this would continue and that they could manage to get on top of this tidy outfit from Dorset.
Ben Scorey replaced Adam Biss at half-time for the visitors. On 47 minutes, Fletcher fed Cameron Munn who miskicked his shot when well set. Two minutes later, a break down the right saw Beardmore provide a telling low cross into the box but no Parkway player could get on the end of it. Wimborne then threatened on 50 minutes and good interplay between Fletcher and Munn saw the latters shot deflected for a corner.
On 51 minutes, Mikey Williams saw yellow for a strong challenge. The match was just about to turn Parkways way though.
On 53 minutes Cameron Munn was bearing down on the Parkway penalty area when he went down from a challenge but was booked for simulation. One yellow quickly became two due to his dissent and he was sent off leaving Wimborne with 10 players for the remaining 37 minutes.
The whole course of the match now changed and constant pressure from Parkway became the norm for the remainder of the game. On 55 minutes the equaliser came when a break down the left saw a good low cross from Brett put away by Mitch Beardmore from 5 yards slotting it just inside the far post. Wimborne immediately replaced Beale with Matt Neale.
On 60 minutes, the hosts almost went in front when a fine cross from the right by Dean was met by the head of Rio Garside who forced an excellent diving save from Rutter. Another Dean cross the very next minute saw a header from Monk not quite connected with properly and it sailed just wide.
It was now all Parkway and Jez Bedford on 63minutes was yellow carded trying to stem the tide. On 67 minutes James Watts-Barciela replaced Wragg for the home side.
On 70 minutes Parkway went in front. Brett played the ball out to the right for Dean to cross into the box where the head of Beardmore played in Rio Garside who blasted the ball high into the net from 12 yards. A double substitution for Wimborne immediately followed with Matt Burrows and Harry Baker introduced for Jez Bedford and Will Fletcher.
On 77 minutes, good play from Dean led to an effort from Williams which was easily saved at the left-hand post by Rutter. Two minutes later, Rutter made an excellent save when turning around the post for a corner a curling effort from Monk which was goal-bound. The resultant corner on 80 minutes dropped to Garside following a flick from Shane White and from 4 yards looked certain to make the score 3-1 but for a brave diving interception from Rutter.
On 82 minutes, a cross from Watts-Barciela saw a looping header from Dean drop just over the bar. Garside was then booked for a foul on 83.
A rare attack from Wimborne on 83 minutes saw the ball played in to Matt Burrows who powered a low drive from the right angle of the box just past the far post. Another break from Burrows soon after was brought to a halt by the offside flag.
Frustration was growing on the Wimborne bench and on 86 minutes, manager Tim Sills was shown a red card and continued to protest as he left. He felt very aggrieved at the sending off of Munn on 53 after listening to his interview after the match.
Parkway came very close on 88 minutes when a Beardmore shot from 8 yards after a cross from Watts-Barciela was saved superbly by Rutter who was keeping his team in the game.
Five added minutes were announced and in the second of those, Wimborne had their final chance of an equaliser when the ball fell to Matt Burrows but he ballooned the ball well over whilst stretching for it. Carmichael was yellow carded and the final whistle was blown for a vital three points for Parkway.
There were a lot of happy faces all around the ground having now achieved their first home league win and the players left the field to great applause.
Next up for Parkway is a visit from high-flying Merthyr Town on Saturday who sit in second place two points behind Gloucester City with a game in hand. Prolific scorer Ricardo Rees will have to be kept quiet if the hosts are to prosper. He is top league goal-scorer this season with 14 already having finished top scorer in the league last season with 36.
