The hosts began on the front foot and good interplay between Shaquille Gwengwe and Jack Dickson in the third minute led to the first shot by Olaf Konzsela who from 20 yards lifted the ball over the bar. Two minutes later, a build up by the same pair in association with Marcus Daws saw a cross from Jordan Ngalo cut out by Rio Garside for the opening corner of the match. Little did Parkway know that the corner count for Dorchester would reach double figures in the first 20 minutes! A well-worked corner routine which had clearly been practiced fortunately came to nothing.
Numerous corners for the hosts followed, mainly due to last ditch tackles, but Parkway were defending well but unable to get out of their half. From one of these corners on 9 minutes, a half-chance dropped to Thomas Bragg who blazed over.
Parkway mustered their first effort on goal in the 12th minute when a good turn by Rio Garside beat the defender, but his 25 yard shot was easily gathered by Gerard Benfield. A quick break down the left by Oliver Haste on 15 minutes, who certainly wasn’t hanging around, produced a dangerous cross well cut out by Taylor Scarff.
A period of sustained pressure came from Dorchester and on 21 minutes Dickson crossed to Wayne Robinson, but his header was well saved by Harrison Lee low down on the goal line. On 23 minutes another corner saw Ieuan Turner head tamely wide for the hosts.
The first quarter of the match had seen Dorchester in total control passing the ball around crisply in all parts of the field. Every one of their players looked comfortable on the ball and when Parkway had possession, they could barely retain it as they were being closed quickly all over the park. You could sense that their players had been given a rocket by their management after their surprise defeat on Saturday and Parkway were paying the price. Marcus Daws in particular, on the right wing, was causing many problems.
A rare Parkway attack on 29 minutes saw a free kick delivered by Jack Endacott met by the head of Scarff but the effort was easily gathered by Benfield. Almost immediately at the other end, Lee had to be alert to race out of his goal to intercept a dangerous situation. A corner this time for Parkway on 34 minutes saw a shot from Frankie Monk deflected well wide for another corner which saw Scarff slip the ball in for Monk who shot well past the left post.
Normal service resumed with Dorchester back on the attack and on 37 minutes, they were awarded a soft free-kick 25 yards out for a challenge by Scarff but the wall blocked the attempt by Gwengwe. Soon after Wayne Robinson spun his defender after working his way in from the left, but his 20-yard drive ballooned over the bar.
On 41 minutes, a good run by Endacott beating two defenders ended with a 25-yard shot which curled comfortably wide of the right hand post. A further chance ensued on 43 minutes after good work by Carlo Garside, Mitch Beardmore and Endacott which saw a Rio Garside shot charged down when looking dangerous. Callum Hall picked up the first caution of the night just before the one added minute elapsed for a high challenge.
Dorchester were generally in total command but lacking the cutting edge with Parkway defending well but it felt that a goal must come in the second half if this continues.
Once again Dorchester began well and forced a low hard shot on 46 minutes by Daws which was deflected for a corner which posed no problem. The hosts continued to press and fine play between Haste, Gwengwe and Robinson saw a cross from the latter which Marcus Daws almost got on the end of, a close shave for Parkway.
However, the deadlock was broken on 53 minutes when a break through the middle saw Shaquille Gwangwe lob Harry Lee from 25 yards to give Dorchester a well-deserved 1-0 lead and their first goal against Parkway in over 500 minutes. Soon after, Daws played in Olaf Konzsela whose low shot from 20-yards was well gathered by Lee.
Parkway managed an attack of their own on 58 minutes which resulted in a shot from Dylan Jones being blocked but it appeared as if it would have just drifted wide. Jones picked up a yellow soon after for a clear pull back. Kieran Edworthy replaced Callum Hall at the same time.
On 65 minutes, the home side came close to making it 2-0 when Daws fed Dickson who forced his way into the box and Lee had to produce a good save from a rasping drive. Two minutes later, another probing run from Dickson down the left but this time ended with a wayward attempt.
Whilst it was still 1-0, Parkway always had a chance, and on 75 minutes, this opportunity materialised when a determined run forward by Taylor Scarff saw him play in Kieran Edworthy who produced a precision cross to Dylan Jones who looked sure to score but blazed over from 8 yards. This was the only clear-cut chance managed by Parkway.
Dorchester then made their first sub with Wesley Fogden replacing scorer Gwangwe. Soon after on 77 minutes, Carlo Garside picked up a very nasty injury to the ankle area and needed to be helped from the pitch very gingerly after being assessed for a few minutes. It looked serious and he could be out some time. He was replaced on 80 minutes by James Watts-Barciela.
On 82, Rio Garside and Edworthy good interplay forced a free-kick 10 yards outside the box with the cross bobbling around invitingly in the box before eventually being cleared. Another attack by the visitors on 84 saw Jones slip a ball through to Tom Dean and his cross was deflected and only just stopped by the keeper Benfield.
Regular substitutions by Dorchester were now the theme to break play up and on 85 minutes, Daws was replaced by Luke Purdoe. Daws was the best player on the pitch and left to massive applause. Two minutes later Luke Roberts replaced Konzsela.
On 89 minutes a Wayne Robinson effort led to a corner from which the hosts came close. A goal bound header from Tom Bragg was headed away by Jones.
Six extra minutes were signalled before Matthew Buse replaced Robinson. 90+3 saw an effort which had Lee scrambling, but it ran just wide of the post. In the last minute, a yellow card was given to Luke Roberts who pulled back Beardmore. Keeper Harry Lee came up for the free kick but to no avail as the final whistle sounded.
Dorchester were arguably the best team Parkway have faced in the league so far this season and look capable of mounting a promotion campaign. Parkway will now have to lick their wounds and focus on the visit of Chichester City in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
