Parkway Youth Round Up
2 - Whitleigh Wolves 5 - Plymouth Parkway
Written by Mark Smith
Plymouth Parkway continues to dominate the Devon Junior and Minors U13s Trafalgar league.
Parkway entered the game seven days after securing the league title with the wind blowing strongly across the city. Parkway found it hard to get into the game with Whitleigh dominating and it was in the third minute when Parkway keeper Tye Roberts was called into action and having to pull off a great save from a Whitleigh shot. It wasn’t long before he was called upon again pulling off another great save.
Minutes later, Whitleigh were given a free kick and it was put over the bar. The Wolves continued to pile on the pressure as shots were coming thick and fast and giving Roberts a lot to do. It was in the 19th minute when Whitleigh finally got the first goal and deservedly so. Whitleigh were still piling on the pressure and calling Roberts into action and the keeper was beaten again as the Wolves took a two-goal lead into the break.
Parkway started the second half and immediately looked like a completely outfit. The second half was hardly 10 seconds old when they pulled one back as substitute Leo Orford took on 3 players and slotted it home and seconds later made it 2-2.
The game was going all Parkways way with shots being taken from Gabriel Headlam, Max Brockman, and Leo Orford and in the 9th minute it was Parkway who took the lead with a powerful shot from Gabriel Headlam.
Four minutes later Parkway doubled their lead as Coby Large took a corner swinging it straight into the Whitleigh goal. With the wind still blowing strongly, it was Parkway who finished the game off with their 5th goal of the day and a hat-trick for Leo Orford.

A game played in difficult conditions with strong winds and a very bobbly pitch.
Both teams are capable of playing attractive football but today it was about taking the advantage of the wind.
Skipper for the day Luke decided to play with the wind in the 1st half and this decision paid dividends for Parkway. Apart from the odd break away counter-attack by Plymstock it was Parkway who controlled the 1st half and had an abundance of opportunities, making the Plymstock defence lives a misery.
Only 7 mins in and Liam Manchip ran at the Plymstock defence before being taken down 25 yds out. Liam picked himself up and from the resulting free kick gave the Plymstock keeper no chance finding the top corner.
Two mins later and a quality through ball by Luke Lee who was wearing the captain’s armband found Manchip who took the ball in his stride and calmly slotted it home.
Parkway now at full throttle soon made it three when Liam’s strike partner dangerous Dennis Daw got in on the scoring act. A corner from Rome Robertson was laid back into Daw’s path who left a defender standing and found the bottom left-hand corner. Reece Carter getting the assist.
20 mins in and Parkway found the net again to make it 4 nil. Good play from the ever-impressive Sam Furlong found Manchip who in turn pulled the ball back across the area for Daw to arrive and make it 4 nil.
The final goal of the 1st half came from another corner and Man of the match Jude Cole reacted the quickest and found the roof of the net.
The 2nd half was always going to be tough going, now playing into the wind and up the slight hill.
Plymstock started to throw everything at Parkway and although they scored a couple of goals in the 2nd half, the back line of Oscar Powell, Luke Lee, and Oliver Green along with the safest hands in football Archie Scott put in an outstanding display of defending and keeping.

Parkway U15s made the difficult trip to Launceston to face Southgate, for their first game in six weeks.
Parkway started strongly, dominating possession in difficult windy conditions. They opened the scoring midway through the first half after a corner fell to shay Millen who struck a sweet volley into the top corner of the net.
Parkway continued to dominate and should really of extended their lead but were wasteful in front of goal. However, shortly before half time Parkway made it 2-0 when a great passing move played in Ollie Pascoe who struck the ball hard and low into the far corner.
The wind continued to play a big part, but it wasn’t long in the second half before Parkway had their third. Again, from a corner the ball fell to Jake Pulley who poked the ball into the bottom corner.
Parkway looked dangerous throughout, and Dalton Hardy made it four when he ran on to his own flick on and lashed the ball home for a deserved goal. Parkway remained resolute in defence, well
marshalled by Oscar Fallon. Parkway made it five when Shay Millen hit another screamer from the right edge of the box into the top corner, then went on to secure his hat-trick by calming slotting home when through on goal.
Strong all round performance with their 9th clean sheet from 11 league games, keeping the pressure on at the top of the league.
