The Last Dance Part Two - Parkway ready for AFC Totton test

Parkway v AFC Totton | Match Preview

By Mike Parrish

“Plymouth Parkway welcomes AFC Totton to Bolitho Park this evening for match day 40 of this season’s Southern Premier League South Campaign.

The two sides will be looking for points for very different reasons tonight, as Parkway continue to try and climb out of the relegation zone, while AFC Totton will be looking to solidify second place and claim home advantage in this season’s league playoffs.

On Saturday, Parkway began a run of three consecutive home games in five days as they welcomed Walton & Hersham to PL5. Despite a bright start, the Yellows found themselves two goals down with only 10 minutes remaining. With defeat looking certain, the team rallied, and Callum Hall pulled a goal back before youngster Dylan Jones reacted quickest in the box to pull Parkway level and ensure another valuable point in the battle against relegation.

Tonight, Parkway’s toughest game on paper in this 3-game home run sequence takes place with the visit of AFC Totton, who have enjoyed a superb season and will be looking for back-to-back promotions after securing the Southern One South league title last season.

Currently, the Stags sit third on 75 points and have a game in hand on second-place Salisbury, who are one point better off. They will travel to Devon this evening knowing three points would lift them into second place before they finish the season on Saturday against in-form Dorchester Town.

Tonight’s fixture follows an earlier postponement at Bolitho due to bad weather, but there are no such concerns this evening with the sun beating down on Bolitho. Following that postponement, the Stags have won three of four league games played, with the only blemish being a 1-0 defeat at Hungerford Town. The Stags have picked up wins against Tiverton Town, Bracknell Town, and last Saturday eased past Merthyr Town with two second-half goals from Ethan Taylor.

Parkway will look to turn recent form around with no win in six games and last tasted victory with a 4-1 win over Swindon Supermarine back on April 7. The Yellows have gone on to taste defeat four times and picked up two points with draws against Poole Town and last Saturday’s grandstand last 10 minutes against Walton & Hersham.
